Designer and founder of Newfound Comrades Simon de Boer tells: 'One day a dear old cup fell from my hands. Crack, there lay the thirty years together to pieces on the floor. When I looked at the shards I was overcome by a brief but intense grief. I realized that some utensils become close comrades, they live with us as well and they are the silent witnesses of our existence. Within the label Newfound Comrades I want to stress that friendship between people and utensils: designed to be a friend.
I solemnly buried the shards. Sometimes I still think about the cup, in the way you think about a friend you care about but never see again'.
